ABOUT RISIDALE

Risidale Primary School is a child-centred school, and at Risidale, we believe in the good old-fashioned values of teaching and learning.
Risidale Primary School reflects the demographics and the socio-economic range that is true to South Africa, and so Risidale becomes an environment that is true to real life. We have rules and regulations and a discipline structure that teaches our children how to behave and interact while still feeling safe and having a sense of belonging. We believe in treating each child as an individual, and offer an education that extends beyond the school subjects, to the sports field, the cultural arena and most importantly to the life skills and values and attitudes that prepare them to live and work and achieve their full potential in the diverse society we find ourselves in today. This culture of Risidale Primary has developed over many years of it’s rich history from it’s humble beginnings.

Our Roots

Risidale Primary School was established in 1967. The school was built on a vegetable farm owned by the Risi brothers. Initially, there was only a small area of mowed grass, and a few prefab buildings which were set in the veld. The first ring of a traditional school hand bell gathered the children on the patch of grass
where Mr Laburn, the Inspector of Education at the time, addressed them with a few words of welcome.

Our Symbols

Miss Jane Fraser was the first principal, and it was her love of birds that led to the heron being chosen as the symbol on our school badge. Our competing houses for internal sport and cultural events are subsequently also titled after birds, namely, Flamingo (the red house), Kingfisher (the blue house), Lourie(the green house) and Oriole (the yellow house).
